Join Kat for an EXCITING and UNFORGETTABLE excursion to Brazil!! You’ll start your trip in Rio de Janeiro where you’ll party like never before. After 4 nights of partying and sightseeing in Rio, you can shop and browse for souvenirs at the Hippie Fair of Ipanema held each Sunday. You’ll then fly to Salvador da Bahia “The Center of Afro-Brazilian Culture” where you’ll stay for 5 nights. Salvador is also called Brazil’s Capital of Happiness due to its’ easy going population and countless outdoor parties.
Afro-Brazilians make up 80% of the population as it once was the major hub of the slave trade in South America. You will enjoy the sights, sounds, and scents of the Pelourinho area where restaurant owners specialize in cuisine made popular by its’ West African slaves.
Finally on Festival Day, journey with Kat to Cachoeira—about 80 miles from Salvador and attend the “Festival da Boa Morte” (Portuguese for the Good Death). The Sisterhood of the Boa Morte is the oldest organization for women of African descent in the New World. It is a distinct part of the history of mass importation of blacks from the African Coast to the cane-growing Reconcavo region of Bahia. The society had its’ beginnings in the senzalas (slave quarters) where slaves would gather to discuss the news about abolition and pray for the slaves killed in the liberation movement.
